Let’s go dancing.

Let’s go dancing, I want to go dancing with you, all night dancing.

If Madonna is the queen of pop music, Tiga must be the crown prince. Okay, Tiga might not make actual pop music but the witty Canadian certainly knows the recipe for great dance tunes.  Most of his songs have the same structure: a simple lyric that is going to be stuck in your head all day long and a hypnotic beat that is going to make you dance all night long.

The dance music scene has always been known to be cooler than cool.  Each weekend clubs fill up with pretty people wearing their sunglasses at night.  Ironically in Tiga’s case, his fans are dancing to music of a man approaching music in a different, sometimes even childish way.  A little birdie told me the main lyrics for his hit single Shoes actually came from Tiga’s son asking him about a tapping sound he heard in the hallway.

Tiga is best known for his great album Sexor! but be sure to check out the twelve ‘My name is Tiga’ podcasts he recorded for BBC Radio 6 if you  haven’t already. As a big Tiga fan myself, I’m happy to see he has decided to start touring again and will be doing several live-shows all over Europe this summer.  I will definitely be on the first row when he is playing at VOLTT in Amsterdam or Melt! festival in Berlin. I also advise you the follow @ciaotiga on Twitter if you want some alternative coverage of the World Cup!

The first song I’ve chosen for this week post refers to Tiga’s latest release with Audion, that has been remixed by all the greats in electronic music by now.

For the second and third song, I’d like to add two of his absolute bangers Louder than a bomb and Mind Dimension, including the corresponding silly clips.  Let me teleport you back into golden days of electro!

This list would not be complete without his monster hit Sunglasses at the night!

And I will end this post with Tiga’s acid remix of The Human League’s Things that dreams are made of is a match made in heaven.

Aaah, Tiga is so cool!

Ciao,
Yannick
